About Sharon

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

― Aristotle

I’m Sharon Blackledge, a licensed social worker in the state of Ohio where I’ve provided services to teens, adults, couples, and families for more than 22 years. My varied experience working in hospitals, schools, outpatient offices, hospice, and private practice has allowed me to build a high level of empathy and clinical competence, which enables me to support individuals from diverse backgrounds in their efforts toward personal growth. As a therapist, I have extensive experience addressing issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, infidelity, intimacy, parenting, attachment wounds, self-image, self-worth, stress management, life transitions, and family of origin.

Who I Help

My overall approach is deeply rooted in attachment theory, which highlights the importance of attachment relationships as those we turn to for security and significance, which enable us to better understand ourselves and to safely explore our worlds. Whether working with you as an individual, a couple, or a family, I strive to provide an atmosphere of safety and trust to enable you to be open and ready to do your best work. We’ll work together in identifying patterns or cycles where you may be getting stuck. We’ll address the needs these patterns are likely serving and then we’ll identify more effective ways to get these needs met. This approach can help you increase personal security, as well as closeness and connection in your most significant relationships.

In more recent years I have undergone hundreds of hours of advanced training and supervision in Emotionally Focused Therapy, as well as having recordings of my therapy sessions reviewed and critiqued by certified EFT supervisors. This has culminated in certification granted by The International Centre of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Outcome studies show that 90% of couples report significant improvements in their relationships using EFT. To learn more about this scientifically validated approach, visit this website.

In addition to attachment theory and EFT, I also draw from the following approaches in my work: Strength-Based, Person-Centered, Family Systems, Humanistic, Experiential, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing.
